surveillance society
A common viewpoint is that surveillance systems --such as CCTV cameras, finger prints, biometrics and facial recognition systems and so on-- are the most efficient way of providing and maintaining the public safety, but also recent research has suggested that this careful and close observation technology also could damage individual privacy.(Foster,2007) On one side, some have argued that life would be more inconvenient and less secure while aware of being tracked and monitored at all times with new and improved over protectionist system.(Weber,2008) On the other hand, however, with good management and a proper level of invasion of privacy, the ideal surveillance society in people's mind might be happening in the practice too. One could argue that who are those people that record, watch and check everything and also adds and demands the right to watch the watcher. Nevertheless people have to consider advantages more than surveillance society's infringes in order to provide a friendly neighbourhood.
This essay will discuss the arguments for and against surveillance society and then clarify what is known and what is unknown about surveillance and its newly created society.

Rudys Revenge
Even though i had no work(bar work) experience before, they hired me as a part time worker, but now, i have become one of their regular employees since i have been working 5 days in these week.
Some people argue that working in a bar full time might make the one tired and it distracts you from school but what i experienced in here is gaining new skills and adding them to my previous ones. Of course it is exhausting to work and study at the same time but still i'm pretty much aware that i have developed so much and i'm proud of what i have become . Besides learning how to do new cocktails , i have learned new communication skills and therefore nowadays i can understand Scottish people's sayings, i also adopted a daily slang language which is very useful for me to communicate other people on daily basis ,like when i am in the underground i can ask someone how to go somewhere and the person doesn't have to ask me back if i could repeat again and again : )

how much does tv influence our lives?
Some people believe that everything people see or watch on TV influences them positively or negatively. moreover what is on tw alienates people at least for a moment or so from the reel world and takes them to the "fantasy world" which is created by the producers. They affect people's attitudes, their beliefs, their values therefore they can either strengthen or erode people over the time. They want to enlighten people the way they thought but who says they are the authorities to make them believe what they think and to show either the right or the wrong .
tv = reality?
This movie, "an acclaimed 1981 documentary about the impact of television on people and social institutions , which was produced before the dawn of the computer age, has been remastered and released by Whole Earth Films " which is reviewed by the critics and even though i have not seen it yet , sounds like a very efficient source to me.

-how tv viewing habits have changed in the last 20 years ?
http://www.questia.com/PM.qst?a=o&docId=35619022
-the positive /negative effects that these tv viewing habits may have on our lives.
According to the article " Television in the Lives of Children " written By Cyndy Scheibe
The effects of television on viewers can be divided into two different types: 1) direct effects due to the content of what is seen (in the programs or commercials); and 2) indirect effects due to the activity of watching TV, regardless of what is being watched. This second type of effect is very important, because it usually means that the more time children spend watching TV, the less time they are spending doing other important activities (like reading, talking with others, getting exercise, playing games, being outdoors, etc.). A lot of the negative effects of TV, like lower reading scores, obesity, and poor physical fitness, seem to be due to these indirect effects. Because of that, it's probably important to set some limits on the amount of time your child spends watching TV, regardless of what shows you allow them to watch. Remember, four hours of Sesame Street is still four hours of television.

3. the future for tv ad tv viewers
(CNN) -- The future of television is changing before our eyes, as media giants scramble to stake their claims in the wilderness of Internet video.
Major studios, including Fox, NBC Universal, and Warner Bros. are moving quickly to establish Web sites for their premium video titles, in hopes of grabbing a growing audience of online video viewers.
It's an exciting time for couch potatoes and mouse potatoes alike, because nobody knows exactly how big audiences will consume video entertainment in the not-too-distant future -- whether it's on a mobile device, a laptop, a wall-mounted screen or something that hasn't been invented yet.
"Historically, the winners are the ones who embrace change," said Jason Kilar, CEO of Hulu.com, which was launched March 12 by the owners of Fox and NBC Universal.

to continue with the characteristics
And say more about Turkish people's habits , we always remove our shoes before we entering house this has a good and simple explanation , our obsession with cleanliness! We don't want to bring all the dirt from streets to our homes .
Even though British people are well known for their excellent tea drinks , in Turkey we have tea and coffee bars and in these bars, people doing nothing but staying long hours and chatting and drinking tea. A typical Turk drinks approximately 10 glasses of black tea per day. Black tea is the most popular drink in Turkey.
Finally Turkish people love kissing each other .Turkish men greet by kissing each other in their faces. This is a normal thing to see in Turkey. Man kisses man, woman kisses woman and woman kisses man in both cheeks every time they meet .
to simon
The two characteristics that comes to mind about Turkish people's characteristics which are hospitality and close family relations.
Hospitality is one of the cornerstones of the Turkish way of life. Turkish people are very gracious and generous hosts as a result of our natural instict. We open our houses to every guest with a smiling face and with all our sincerity give the best seat and cook the best food for our guest.
Familiy relations are very close within Turkish people. We respect our elder and support each other in every way. Fathers and mothers support their children financially until they got married. Children do care so much about their parents and support them when they get sick or old both financially and mentally.

There is actually one thing i could say that i really like it, is the part of his speech after the election.

Its very touching even though it is a quotation from Abraham Lincoln's speech but many people like me remembers it from the movie called American History X

a piece of writing ,
People in different countries always tent to ask me about the Turkish people wearing sheets ,which is a traditional Muslim headdress consisting of a long scarf wrapped around the head , anyway even in London there is a lot of woman who wears them and of course in turkey some of them wear it too but NOT EVERYONE! i feel so tired of responding these question. look at me , i don't wear them and i am Turkish so this means not everybody in Turkey wears that sheets. In fact i consider myself post modern muslim who doesn't believe in any religion really but also doesn't need to reject it which is stated as it is somehow.
to compare turkey and London
i could say there are quite a lot of similarities than the differences
for instance Turkish people are very much into drinking alcohol and also like to watch football
maybe family is a big subject for us more than British people . it is not because British people love their families less than us but it is because we depend on our families more than Brits. for example me and my other friends who live in London and go to university still supported by our families. i don't think your parents still pay your bills , tuition's or other expanses at the age of 25.
that's all
i hope you ll like my country
my research
Title
A research report on leisure activities and social programs of the London Metropolitan University Pre-sessional course students .
Background
There are quite a lot of researches has been done about how stress affecting working people over the last 10 years but the situation can go harder on to the students more than working people in terms of the dealing process with the stress.
From the beginning of the education lives of the students , they are racing and competing with each other until they finish up being in between their needs for motivation to study more and the necessity for the leisure activities to relax and socialize.
Despite of the fact that of studying hard and all the time , especially foreign students need some time off for their social activities to feel more comfortable and also realize that they are not all alone on their new adventures for to move forward.
It is useful then to investigate when students free times are and what kind of activities could be organized to make them feel comfortable and happy more.
Aims
The aim of this report is to investigate what London Metropolitan Pre-Sessional course students do on their spare times and when is the proper time period for them to socialize. Also to discover their needs on leisure activities that the university can organize.
The Method
The Sample
The sample size was 5 and the respondents were almost the same age. They were all pre-sessional course students of the London Metropolitan University.
Data Collection
This was carried out through the use of a survey. First of all ; all the question were trialled with a sample of 5 people and new improved survey then devised. A little changes were on the options of choosing and the style of the questionnaire.
And the original survey has taken by 24 people and they were all London metropolitan university students.
Findings
There were three questions asked to London Metropolitan students pertaining to demographic details ; The age , marital status and their genders . The majority of the students were in the age between of 21-25 , and more than a quarter of the students were in between 26-30 , also a smaller portion of them were in between of 31-35 while a small minority of the students were younger than 20 years old. Regarding to the marital status question ;Unsurprisingly nearly more than three quarters of the students stated that they were single but also a significant number of the students mentioned that they were married , also %8.3 of the students said that they were divorced. Interestingly no-one said that they were engaged. When it comes to genders ,more than half of the students interviewed were males and %41.16 of them were females.
When asked London met students if they are working or not , the majority agreed that they were not working .However a significant number of the students , which is %37.5 , agreed that they were working. This would seem to indicate a significant number of students are experiencing a financial difficulties , while the rest of them probably might not.
When it comes to the periods of the students' free times , out of the 24 students ,precisely half of them interviewed mentioned that weekday afternoons and weekday evenings were available for their leisure activities and nearly 3 quarters of the respondents replied that the weekend nights were the most appropriate time for them to be free , also more than half of the students stated that the weekend days were also their times for their leisure activities. These results suggested that the weekday afternoons and evenings might be available for the students for whom they are not working . However it is also indicated of the big majority of the students that weekend nights are most convenient time period for them to socialize.
In terms of the most common leisure activities that London Metropolitan students do, it is impossible not to notice how sportive they were. The results reveal some significant variations among different activities of the students but considering the vast majority, surprisingly they choose to do sports on their free times. it is articulated that just about a quarter of the students interviewed choose to do entertainment and only 2 people stated that she/he is interesting in technological activities while just one person has other interests in his/her free time. this seems to show a tendency for to do sports is very popular among the London metropolitan students .
With those whom choose to do sports, divided three parts , through their working out hours. Nearly half of them spend their 3-5 hours in a week while only a small portion of them spend their 6-10 hours in a week. Also %38.16 of the students like to do sports two hours pr less than two hours in a week. With regard to their sport activities surprisingly only %7 .69 of them choose to do the sports with other people while rest of the students' answers separated exactly same portions. Half of the rest choose to do it alone and the other half choose to do it with their friends.
As their attitudes towards the university's social organizations , even though almost three quarter of the students knew about the events , only a small portion of the students indicated that they were attended. Surprisingly , again, only half of them voted 5 out of 10 while the rest of the students shared their votes precisely 2,6 and 7. Overall , satisfaction levels seems to to be very low. We can perhaps therefore add that if the amount of the students who do sports are that huge so maybe it would be better for university's social organizations might be related with sports so that the students can pay more attention than they are doing right now.

My Secret Life
When i was a child i wanted to be , Xena The Warrior Princess but i knew that i wasn't that strong that's why i decided to be her best friend.
The moment that chanced me for ever , must be the first time i went to USA with my best friend for 3 months. We had a huge fight after a month and then i spent all my summer in New York all by myself. I could not exactly describe the feelings that i had at that moment but i could say that i felt awesome.
My greatest inspiration , is to feel in love.
If i could change one thing about myself.. I would be a more listener and a less talker.
What i see when i look at the mirror is that I'm getting fatter and fatter by the day. Every Monday I'm going on a diet and every Monday evening I'm giving up on it.
My style icon .. Actually i don't really have one but of course i ' ve been inspiring by the movies . One day i woke up, after watching The Factory Girl , i would like to dress like an Edie Sedgwick or maybe even worse i could decide to imitate Andy Warhol.
The person who really makes me laugh is of course Jerry Seinfeld. I could not get enough of him
A book that changed me .. A Turkish Book called "Her name is Aylin" which is a autobiography and despite the very short life that she had , her achievements are really huge and inspiring .
My favorite work of art.. is a piece from Roy Lichtenstein. http://ebayimages.goantiques.com/dbimages/KZZ9157/KZZ9157GH1073.jpg
My favorite item of clothing are any black shirts with a pair of skinny jeans
Its not fashionable but i like long cardigans that i could wear it on everything
You wouldn't know but i am very good at cooking . Of course i couldn't cook everything but i could cook very fast and very delicious.
You may not know but I'm no good at any team work. I get very nervous and excited at the time same and i keep talking and talking.
All my money goes on nothing that i can save or use it in the very near future. i mean to the crap really.
If i have time to myself , i log on Internet. By the time i open my eyes until close them again,i could not be apart from my PC . i really hate it by the way but it became an addiction somehow.
My house is . i don't really have a house now but I'm moving out in two weeks hopefully i could find a good one .
My most valuable possession is the golden bracelet my mother gave me just before i come to London. I would literally die if i lose it.
My favorite building is my friends penthouse in Manhattan's Upper West Side. It really is incredible.
Movie heaven is of course Bob Dylan's biographic movie "I'm Not There"
The best invention ever .. Internet
The last album i downloaded is The Last Shadow Puppets' - Age of the Understatement. Its incredible really i love them so much that i could listen Alex Turner's voice every day
In 10 years' time , i hope .. i would finished my MA degree , and working also happily married and living London or Manhattan
My greatest regret is that i kind of waste couple of my years for doing nothing after high school . I wish that i would not.
My life in seven words .. songs are the soundtracks of my life

List of problems solved by MacGyver
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This is a list of problems that have been solved by the fictional character MacGyver from the television series of the same name. (This list is not yet comprehensive.) MacGyver employs his resourcefulness and his knowledge of chemistry, physics,[1] technology, and outdoorsmanship to resolve what are often life-or-death crises. He spontaneously creates inventions from simple items to solve these problems. These inventions became synonymous with the character and were called MacGyverisms by fans.[2] MacGyverisms became a distinct motif of the series. MacGyver was unlike secret agents in other television series and films because he carried only a Swiss Army knife and duct tape, instead of relying on high-tech weapons and tools.[1]
The show's writers, which included Lee David Zlotoff and Dave Ketchum, based MacGyver's inventions on items they found on location, concepts from scientific advisors John Koivula and Jim Green, and real events.[1] The show also offered a monetary prize to people who sent good ideas in to the show. A young fan of the series suggested that MacGyver could patch up a vehicle's radiator by cracking an egg into the radiator. The episode "Bushmaster" was constructed around this trick, and the fan was rewarded. Although staff were appointed to read every letter sent in, few usable ideas were obtained in this way.[2]
Children watching the series imitated MacGyver and tried to replicate the simple devices he created in the show. The creative team behind MacGyver made a point of leaving out crucial elements of the inventions so that children would not be harmed.[1]

Why the record-breaking falls
- Robert Peston
- 27 Oct 08, 10:57 AM
Today's fall in stock markets across the world puts us on track to set new records for monthly declines in share prices.
So far this month, share prices in the US and Europe have fallen on average by more than a quarter, those in Asia by a bit more.
Unless there's a sudden bounce, the cumulative monthly falls in October for most major markets will be as big as has been by anyone alive.
In the case of the US, the monthly drop is likely to be the biggest for 70 years. For other markets, where serious measurement of stock-market movements is a younger pursuit, the drops are as bad as any seen since records began some 40 years go.
Why the rout?
Well three things are going on.
First, we're seeing the end of the carry trade, the investment of cheap, low-interest loans raised in yen and dollars for investment in higher yielding financial markets, such as those of the emerging economies, Iceland and - to an extent - the UK.
Investors are liquidating assets everywhere from South Korea, to Argentina, to Hungary, and holding the proceeds in the Japanese and US currencies.

yesterday after we were evacuated from school during our induction, which was quite funny actually considering it was the very first day for us , i decided to make myself happy so i called my friend Tamu to get together and hang out , who is also a friend from Turkey but he is Iranian and he lives in here more than 2 years now. we met at the Leicester Square Station and first we went for eating something and there we met another friend of us who is also from Turkey and he is a bar attender. He works at the same neighborhood and then after we finished our burgers we went to his bar to continue our joyful chat with a little bit liquor.
the reason of telling these unimportant details is just because i hardly remember the rest of the day. what i remember was that the great cocktails which i had quite few :)
